International Women's Day
80% of hair professionals are women. Let that sink in as we celebrate International Women’s Day in an industry championed by hard-working women! Few industries can say that, and we are so proud to be a part of one that can! On March 8th, we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. As game-changers in the hair industry, we aim to amplify the voices of those who empower the world of hair, whether it’s through artistry and entrepreneurship or a hairdresser making their clients’ day.
In celebrating women, we want to start with the salon owners. Salons took a chance on a small start-up company that wanted to change the hair game. Besides women influencing the industry, salons are owned mostly by minorities, by 52%! 23% of salons are Asian-owned, 16% Hispanic-owned, and 13% Black-owned. We support and stand up for our community and thank women for growing and accelerating this industry! Internally, we’re proud to say women and women minorities occupy integral roles at OLAPLEX, from our CEO to our PR, social media, education, and leadership teams.
Cultivating an industry where women are the major players helps future generations of girls identify with women in power and relate to a space they can see themselves occupying. From salon owners and creators to entrepreneurs and hair professionals, all of them have learned to change in 2020. Women have shown their resilience to adapt and pivot to thrive. Last year was undoubtedly rough on everyone; we want to illuminate the millions of women who make up the 80% and their tenacity when we needed resourcefulness.
While salons close and open amidst a global pandemic, women continue to stay afloat, profit and transform their businesses. From online color classes to growing their social media, we are so proud of this community of women who have resilience, recovery, and revival anchoring them aweigh to new heights.
Ways you can empower women today are by supporting women-owned businesses like salons or independent hairdressers, following female creators on social media, and uplifting the voices of female minorities. Happy International Women’s Day to all the women out there, making the world a better place and to those that keep the hair industry going!
