Spring Cleaning: Hair & Mental Health
I want my mental health to bloom this Spring. With the difficulties of 2020 and restless times at home, the need for a sixth closet and shelf purge for the sake of Spring cleaning seems redundant.
This year, I want to do a different Spring cleaning as acts of wellness to promote my mental wellbeing. I want all the OLAPLEX lovers out there to flourish, so I’m sharing some tools that’ve helped me detox mentally! I’ve learned the enormous value of self-care and how its application promoted a deep dive into self-love.
I’ve dedicated several days a week to self-improvement, and it all started by treating my hair. As a naturally curly gal, and one who has only embraced their curls the past few years, my hair extends my identity. During a year where nothing seems certain, showing my hair love was one thing I could do every day to make myself feel good and look presentable.
OLAPLEX Nº.0 and Nº.3 Intensive At-Home Treatment
I’m a regular OLAPLEX user, and admittedly my hectic lifestyle used to impede weekly treatments. Fast forward to today, I make time, even during the wildest weeks, to treat my hair. How does this relate to my mental health? I realized that my work life completely took over my will to care for myself with the little extras. I fell into a perpetual state of “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Sound familiar? Overtime not taking moments to pause and show myself some love affected my confidence.
Here’s what my self-love, healthy hair, healthy mind ritual looks like now:
Light my favorite candle and play my turn on a playlist.
Dampen my hair with OLAPLEX Nº.0, comb it through, and wait for ten minutes.
During this time, I like to set myself up for the next self-care act during my treatment. It’s always different; sometimes it’s journaling, sometimes getting ready for a walk in the park, and others I am doing even more self-care, like a face mask or my nails.
After ten minutes, I apply OLAPLEX Nº.3 directly on top of the Nº.0 on my hair. After combing the product through, I either put it up if I’m staying home or style it into cute braids if I’m leaving the house. When I’m done with the treatment, I wash it out with OLAPLEX Nº.4 and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner.
When I take time for myself, not only am I making my hair healthier, but my mind also feels healthier because I took time to promote wellness into myself. Self-care has a domino effect. One day it’s just an OLAPLEX treatment; the next, it’s an OLAPLEX treatment and a face mask. The day after that, it’s an OLAPLEX treatment, a face mask, celery juice, and an hour of exercise. That’s the lifestyle I want to make more room for this Spring.
So when you think of Spring cleaning this year, remember the impact acts of self-care can have on your life. Think of how else making time for you can clear any negativity or self-doubt and do so often!
